🩺 National Diabetes Prevention Week – May 26 to June 1 🩺

✉️ A message from your Practice Nurses ✉️

Did you know that Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented or delayed with simple lifestyle changes? As part of National Diabetes Prevention Week, we want to highlight the support available for those at risk.

At our practice, we offer a blood test (HbA1c) that helps us check if you’re at higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. You may be at higher risk if you have:
👉 A family history of diabetes
👉 A history of high blood pressure or overweight
👉 Had gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy)
👉 South Asian, African-Caribbean or Black African background (increased risk from a younger age)

If you’ve been told you’re at risk or have had raised blood sugar levels in the past, you could be eligible for referral to the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP). This free national programme helps people make long-term lifestyle changes to reduce their risk—through tailored support on healthy eating, weight loss, and exercise.

🗓️ If you’re concerned about your risk or want to know more, please speak to one of our nurses or contact reception to book a review.

Let’s take action early to prevent diabetes together! 💙
